Soak in ...??? The proposals of cornstarch? It must be quite stiff, so stiff enough for the wing not to my face.

Try to spray starch (in supermarkets and stores like Wal-Mart sold) and perform a warm (not hot) iron on his hat. You may need to make a couple of times to get the amount of starch, but the heater with iron will also help, such as straw, take the flat / rigid when cooled.
